The Full Story
A Lifetime of Design
Design has always been an area of my life that has inspired great interest, challenge, and joy for me. My mum was a graphic designer and growing up in our home there was always an emphasis on good layout and composition. This heavily influenced my school work and hobbies and the basic principles I learnt early on have continued to be fundamental for me throughout my life.
After finishing School I went on to complete a Bachelor's degree in Architecture where I discovered a deeper interest in software and its effectiveness in the communication of ideas. Mood boards and photo collages were replaced with 3d renders and virtual walkthroughs. My four years of University grew my passion for buildings and furniture and after the completion of my degree I traveled the world to see my favourite pieces of design first hand.
On returning home to New Zealand I took up a more hands-on job as a designer/builder for a small fit-out company. Here I helped generate concept design but also assisted in the construction and installation of these ideas. The work was extremely rewarding, the process of imagining something that then I would then need to construct provided me with a deeper understanding of the overall process. I'd also often use the factory and machinery in my free time to design and make furniture for my flat - I fell in love with the creative atmosphere.
Having worked on some amazing projects in this role, I was offered the opportunity to work with a larger design firm involving more responsibility. Here I would oversee consent applications and building documentation, although my main focus was to design in a way that would integrate CAD modeling for the company's industrial CNC machines. This blend of software, machinery and design generated and very smooth and design friendly approach to the company's jobs that they continue to use to this day and was an exciting exploration into the relationship between technology and architecture. Through this time I began to see the effectiveness of 3d Rendering as a visual tool for communicating ideas. I dedicated hours of my free time upskilling in these areas trying to master these visual aids while also furthering my experimentation with design, this in turn proved to be an extremely effective sales assets for the company.
Tired of the long commutes to the office and after being approached for lots of jobs independent from the company I decided to branch out on my own - starting my own Architectural Design and 3D rendering company. I have created numerous bespoke high quality designs for a raft of clients and projects, and love bringing all kinds of projects to life in a visual and dynamic way.

I still design and make furniture and am always challenging my practises and exploring the exciting new technologies that are constantly shifting and influencing the design space.
